As early as I can recall, I was introduced to a white man with flowing golden hair, a beautiful cleft chin and blue eyes and told this was my God in which everything is well made…
Never asking questions, I followed what my parents and ancestors had ascribed into…
Very quickly the ‘why why why’ began to pop up… why is he white when the same bible says he had hair Wollen and ebony skin…? But then the very thought left me feeling so guilty and sinful…
Soon I learn that the picture is only a representation after all and that infact the face that I always pull up was actually a picture of some man in prison who some artist thought looked delicate enough to be propagated as the face of my lord?
Not that knowing this made any difference. So is the power of brain washing! I just can not stop pulling up this wrong image of my God, even though I know it to be wrong…
Learning as well that unlike what we have been told, God as we know it did exist for us before the ‘white’ man introduced an image of himself to replace… I am a filmmaker, I am very conscious of the power of imaging… it is my numero uno in my tool box 📦!
SO WHAT DO I DO NOW WHEN THE CLOSEST IMAGE TO THE GOD OF LOVE I HAVE BEEN SOLD, IS THE VERY IMAGE THAT SEEKS ME EVIL?
How do I go to church on Sunday to pray to a white God when the white man is seeking to kill me and my children?
THEREIN LAYS THE MOST CONFUSING PART FOR BLACK PEOPLE!
